Welcome New Patients!

Our New Patient Process

1. Let’s Get to Know Each Other

The first visit to a doctor’s office can sometimes be nerve-wracking, especially for kids. But, your first visit to Evergreen Orthodontics will be completely painless, easy, and even enjoyable!

At your first free consultation, you’ll be welcomed by our team, introduced to expert orthodontist Dr. Alena Lotz, and shown around our Smyrna office.

Our highly-trained, orthodontic treatment coordinator will then take some digital photographs of your teeth. These images are the best way for us to see your teeth, jaws, and facial soft tissue.

2. Creating Your Custom Treatment Plan

After reviewing your records, Dr. Lotz will join you in a private consultation room to discuss your individualized and unique treatment plan.
Dr. Lotz will point out specific areas of concern and show you what kind of corrections you can expect by showing photos and videos of similar cases.

Dr. Lotz will take as much time as you need to answer your questions and decide what kind of treatment is best for you. Dr. Lotz and her assistant will then walk you through the process.

We will explain everything—from scheduling to expected discomfort levels, finances and payment options.

Frequently Asked Questions

When should children get an orthodontic check-up?

The American Association of Orthodontists and Dr. Lotz recommend an orthodontic screening at age seven. By this age, most children in Cobb County have several permanent teeth that have erupted, letting us evaluate their orthodontic needs.  By this age, Dr. Lotz can spot subtle problems with jaw growth and emerging teeth while some baby teeth are still present.  That’s important, because some orthodontic problems may be easier to correct if they are found early at Evergreen Orthodontics.

Most orthodontic patients at our Smyrna office begin active braces treatment between ages 9 and 14.

Can adults benefit from orthodontic treatment?

Orthodontic treatment can be successful at almost any age. In fact, about one in every four orthodontic patients today is over the age of 18.

Thanks to today’s smaller, less visible and more comfortable orthodontic appliances (including metal braces, ceramic braces, and Invisalign clear aligners), adults will find treatment more appealing than ever before.

How long does orthodontic treatment take?

Patients who need orthodontic treatment generally have one to three years of active treatment at Evergreen Orthodontics.
Overall, your treatment time at our Smyrna office really depends on your specific needs. Dr. Lotz can address some issues within a year, while other people may have needs that can take much longer.
Precise treatment durations will vary from patient to patient, but can be determined through a free consultation at our Smyrna office.

How long do I have to wear retainers after treatment?

Dr. Alena Lotz will recommend how long to continue wearing your retainers, whether they are removable (the kind you put in and take out) or fixed (bonded behind your teeth).
Wearing your retainers as prescribed by Dr. Lotz is the best way to keep your teeth from moving after your orthodontic treatment.
There are many reasons teeth may move following orthodontic treatment. Teeth are not set in concrete, they’re in bone.
Because the bone around your teeth is continually changing (breaking down and rebuilding), your teeth may shift after your braces are removed.
By wearing your retainers, your teeth are more likely to remain where Dr. Lotz has placed them through braces treatment.
